Finca Rotes dels Cavallers belongs to the Galmés Ribot family, but way back in the 17th century it belonged to the mythical Comte Mal (Count Evil) who rented it out to his knights so they could cultivate the vineyard and produce wine, evidence of the long established wine making tradition in Santa Margalida.

Catalina Ribot i Galmés is in charge of the wine making and her parents, Jaume Ribot and Catalina Galmés are the vineyard’s cultivators. For five years now they have worked as a team – together with sommelier Julio Torres – to determine which grapes are best adapted to the soil and climate of their vineyard and in order to produce a wine with its own personality.

They are especially interested in cultivating Mallorcan grapes: Callet, Fogoneu, Prensall Blanc, Giró Ros and Gorgollassa.

In 2010 the Galmés i Ribot family returned to organic farming of their vineyards, with the aim of obtaining better quality and chemical free wines. In an experimental area they are cultivating varieties that were grown in Mallorca before the phylloxera plague hit: Escursar, Vinater Blanc, Vinater Negre and Argamussa.

Because of their eagerness to achieve better quality, Galmés i Ribot harvest the grapes by hand and only press their own produce. They respect the growth cycle and intervene the least possible in the vineyard. Respect is the key word for the work carried out by winemaking family Galmés i Ribot.
