Although it is hard to determine the ancestors of the "Gavatxut Balear", it is very likely that this race originates from the Balearic Islands. It stems from crossings between different pigeon races from the Mediterranean coast and races from the islands.

Characteristics

It is a middle sized pigeon with a broad chest, large wings and a thick plumage. This animal has a nervous and restless character and is agile and light. The males have a fiery temperament, whilst the females tend to be jealous.

They weigh about 450 gramm and have a short, strong and slightly curved beak. They have a short and robust neck, a broad and muscular chest, large wings and short, thin legs. Their blue, honey yellow, black and blue-sprinkled plumage is much appreciated for its beautiful colours.
