Origin
Originating in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula, the Mallorcan horse is fairly large, strong and can be used for work. It gave way to, amongst other populations, the Catalan breed and is now extinct.

Characteristics

The Mallorcan horse is a calm, strong, rural and very sedate animal with a lean build and a black coat.

Obtaining Registration

The census of registered animals exceeds a headcount of 150. The focus of the functionality of this breed has shifted in recent years to one of pure breeding for riding purposes. Given its streamlined shape, the elegance of its black colour and its temperament as a calm, docile animal, the Mallorcan horse has a higher value on the market today.

This appreciation gives it greater stability as a breed, one that is deserving of protection not simply because it is ours, but also because of the importance its genetics signifies.
