Origins
Experts in the ethnology of animal breeding claim that this kind of bovine stems from the bos primigenius, which came from Egypt to the Western Mediterranean. Previously it spread throughout all of Northern Africa and in the South of the Iberian Peninsula.

The maritime trade between the different countries in this area, of which the islands stated an ideal platform for logistics, promoted the presence of this kind of cattle. To date, these animals remain here and feature an impressive grade of pedrigree.

General characteristics

The cows of this rustic race have a strong maternal instict and are good breeding animals.

They are fairly small and their fur is brown with tones varying from light pink to dark brown and almost black. The adult females weigh approximately 300 to 350 kilos, whereas the male adults weigh 450 kilos.

General data

The race disposes of a stud book, which had been published in the Official Gazzette of the Balearic Islands on the 10th of June 1999. In June 2002, 12 bulls, 127 cows, 57 fighting bulls and 14 calves were registered.Traces from the Talayot era, which were found on the ilsand, prove that they lived in Mallorca more than 2000 years ago. According to historians, their numbers increased during the 13th and 14th century.
