The Balearic lizard (Podarcis lilfordi), which does not exist on the island of Mallorca, is the oldest land vertebrate of the Balearic Islands, together with the “ferreret” (Mallorcan midwife toad).

It is a small, dark green reptile with four short extremities, while its body and tail are both long.

An omnivorous creature, it hibernates briefly during the colder months. It lays two to three eggs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the summer, and the babies are born after a period of around 60 days.

It is prey to kestrels, seahawks, rats and seagulls.
