Bulls of Costitx

The “Bulls of Costitx” or “Caps de Bous” (Bull Heads) are three bronze heads from the Talayot period.

Bulls of Costitx - Mallorca

Found in the year 1894 during excavations at the sanctuary of Son Corró, they were acquired by the National Archaeological Museum, where they are presently housed.

These heads are considered one of the most outstanding testimonies to the practice of bull worship that existed during this period. Their possible connection to funerary rites stems from the discoveries made at burial grounds.

The “Bulls of Costitx” each have holes ideal for placing them in the high part of the bows of the period’s boats. It is believed that they were figureheads for boats captured by the Talayot pirates.
